My work is about transformation and the process of unearthing and examining the things that hold us back from our Truth. I am inspired by the dream state- full of metamorphosis and dual meaning- the perceived dangers we experience there, and the way the subconscious uses this place to exorcise our fear and anger. Drawing on this place, teeming with complexities and logical abstractions, archetypes and absurdity, I create furniture, installations, sculpture, costumes, and performance that reflect the more mystical elements of our existence and my own search for meaning. I employ symbolism in physical form and human action to create simultaneous, multiple meanings and use ambiguity, ritual imagery, and ritualized movement to describe my explorations of the more mysterious aspects of the human experience. I strive to create a dialogue between humans and objects; pieces often have multiple layers that are revealed through interaction and performance. My work asks the viewer to become a user, to investigate the piece physically and actively, learning about it and from it over time, and dissecting the meanings hidden within.
